Though we're moving on to some new topics soon, we just wanted to let you know we'll never stop talking about peace.
When we talk about ending extreme poverty, we're talking about creating healthier communities able to work for peace. When we say we want to raise the status of women around the world, we're saying we want everyone to have the means to live in peace. When we experiment with the power of new media to connect all humans around the world, we're doing it in order to create and strengthen relationships, knowing that will lead us all closer to peace. And if you haven't made your mark yet on our "peace demonstration" map, please do! (Guess what: The map now has more than 500 members! Go you! Frappr doesn't show all the members at once, however; we're working with them to see what we can do about that.)
And now, about those tiles. In September I met up with an artist (at the wonderful Vermont Studio Center) from the Global Peace Tiles Project. It's a worldwide art project in which kids and adults, artists and communities come together for one- or two-day workshops. They bring pictures, text, and any other material that reflects what's important in their lives, and everyone makes small pieces of art that together create whole murals. The idea is a favorite one of ours at HumanKind: create and strengthen connections among all people -- through art. Their web site is a great way to add to that 5 percent shift in your media diet. And check out their video:
