This week included 9/11, a day of remembrance. But it was also, for me, a day of a little too much media fear-mongering, which, as you may have guessed by now, I'm against. For fun I counted the number of inspiring stories on the front page of the New York Times on Sept. 12, and the number was 0.
So I hope you'll visit us here, in addition to your other morning news, for some HumanKind Media when you can. We're for what Mark Morford, a San Francisco columnist, describes in this beautiful quote, something he wrote when the United States began the war in Iraq in 2002:
"Stop thinking this is all there is... Realize that for every ongoing war and religious outrage and environmental devastation and Iraqi attack plan, there are a thousand counter-balancing acts of staggering generosity and humanity and art and beauty happening all over the world, right now, on a breathtaking scale, from flower box to cathedral." -- Mark Morford
My oak tree is dropping so many acorns every morning; we've started having a going-to-school acorn-throwing event every morning. It really gets all five carpool boys into the vehicle fast, as they're all trying not to get hit by the pointy end of an acorn. I tell you this because the HumanKindMedia tree is already dropping new seeds to plant, like my oak tree -- too many to mention here, but you all know who you are and what you're doing. We won't be throwing anything at anybody, though, except for heaps of thanks to all who venture here for their part in creating a global intention.
Those amazing folks at Malaria No More got our Humankind Challenge donation site up on Wednesday like it was easy. So, if you haven't bought your net, but are intending to, just click on the link and your donation is counted for the HumanKind Media match, turning 1 net into 2.
I learned from Liz's interview with Chris Baty that a deadline is the key to accomplishing the impossible. So here are two deadlines for you: Let's hit Paul's matching 50 by the end of the week. If you already donated and didn't tell me, like Mom did, please drop us a line at editor[at]humankindmedia.com so we can count your nets. And while we're at it, let's get 2,000 nets by the end of October, so we can move on to the next exciting HumanKind Challenge. And, sorry, last pitch -- please send this to your friends abroad. Wouldn't it be cool to have donations from every continent??
