The HumanKind Challenge #1
Can we use media to create a global community with an intention to heal the world?
That's what we asked ourselves when we began the HumanKind Challenge. We believe that when you're overwhelmed by horrendous stories or heart-wrenching pictures in the media, you can stay in that moment and decide to contribute in your own unique way, instead of turning away in helpless frustration. You can say, "Yes, that's awful. But we're all working on that."
HUMANKIND CHALLENGE #1: Donate a mosquito net, and save a life.
We introduced this challenge in our inaugural edition of HumanKind Media and our 'A What-If for the world'. Check out this video if you want to see what moved us to take this on.
It's such a small thing, a bed net, but it can keep the person inside from contracting malaria. Instead of getting sick, they'll grow up, they'll go to school, and contribute to their own community, and to the world.
HumanKind Media (with the help of two generous donors--thanks, Paul and Mike) will match every net purchased by our readers to help meet the goals of the U.N. Millennium Project, which you can read about here and here, with a purchase of our own. Every single $10 bed net becomes two.
So, buy a net, or even two. Your donation will be automatically be counted for the HumanKind Challenge. We are continuing to work to enlist groups, schools, communities, and companies to join us in this oh-so-simple, but oh-so-powerful way for each one of us to help end poverty by 2015.
Short on resources or time? Or not sure if this is how you want to make a difference? See our 1,001 Ways to heal the world, and challenge yourself to come up with your own.
